Madeira Beach, a one and a half-mile long slice of paradise began as a fishing village. Known as the Fishing Capital of Pinellas County,; commercial fishing, especially grouper, is still an important part of the community's activities. Each October, Madeira Beach is host to John's Pass Seafood Festival. John's Pass leads boaters fron the Intracoastal Waterway to the Gulf of Mexico so it's only a matter of minutes to open sea to catch that big one. The town's census population is about 4,000 but that number reaches approximately 10,000 during winter months. Madeira Beach has a wide misture of houses, mid-rise to high-rise condos and income properties. All the conveniences including shopping, banking, and healthcare are close-by. Affectionately known to all the locals as Mad Beach, this charismatic town is full of young and young-at heart people, good food and good music.
